Motherboard for Q9450

Last response: in Components

I found a Q9450 for $300, and will be buying it soon. I'm not sure about which motherboard to get with it; I'm a bit of a noob. I'm looking at the ABIT IP35 Pro right now but am a bit concerned about compatability; I've read that it doesn't support the 45nm chips without a BIOS update. I need at least 3 SATA ports, and don't really anticipate using SLI anytime soon. Thanks a ton for any help.

The cheapest chipset motherboard that supports 45nm quad natively is p45. It overclocks better than p35, and the same as far more expensive x38. $99.99

What is the difference between x38, x48, and P45?

Their overclocking performance is about the same. All use PCIE2.0. X38/48 supports crossfire, p45 does not.

If you got the cash, the Rampage Formula is definitely worth the price. I can get 450fsb with the Q9450. I wish the VID on my Q9450 wasn't 1.25, makes it so damn hard to get above 3.6ghz.
