Hello everyone. I need some help in deciding on what power supply to get on a budget. Or what is the best wattage for what I plan on getting. So far for my PC Build I have 2 things chosen already. The GPU I plan on buying is either a 3850, 3870, or the 9600. Everything else like hard drive case etc... I already have ready. This PC build is for normal use like gaming, media, editing and the other normal stuff.

MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813128090

RAM:

for the power supply I have seen a few that I think are good for what I plan on getting.

PSU possibilitys?

I do not know that much about PC parts besides the basic external stuff so please go easy on me

Those Rosewill PSUs are cr@p...do not buy those.... Corsair and Antec are one of the best brands .... i suggest you get the Corsair 550VX PSU.

Also:

1)Which CPU do you have/planning to buy... also have you already bought that mobo and RAM?

2) What is the major purpose of this build...is it just gaming or vid editing and stuff

3) What is your total budget

Aevm's suggestion of PSU is swell as well

1) I have a 4000+ Athlon 64 X2 that I plan on using. I do not have the Mobo and Ram yet but I plan on getting them this summer.

2) The major use of the build will be gaming and just editing. Nothing else.

3) I am willing to spend 300+ under 400.

Do you guys know any good PSU deals that are under 60 bucks? S: . That looks like a Good PSU but I want to find one that just a few bucks cheaper.

Get this RAM instead. It wil save you a few bucks

So if you get the mobo, RAM, PSU and 9600GT...it would be $85+$35+55+130 = $405

Now time for deciding what GPU to get.

Here are 2 Video Cards. 1 of them is the 3870(SAPPHIRE) and the other one is the 3850(HIS).

3870 512MB 256-bit GDDR4

3850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

Which one do you think is better? I know they are both the same price but I would prefer some opinions :)

If you are looking for a dirt cheap tower with lots of room and PSU. Go to the best buy outlet center they have a Dynex Gaming tower with 500w PSU for 29.99!!!! I just got it and love it. everything runs much cooler and wicked easy to change things over. Front door is flimsy but has clear side with cool lights. Check it out

From the benchmarks I have seen it really depends on what resolutions and AA settings as to whether the 3870 or the 9600 GT is the better choice. I personally havent used a 9600 GT, but I know the 3870 can overclock very well (mines stable at 825/1201 MHz), Of course your experience may differ.

Also look at what games you will be planning on playing to see whether the 9600 GT overall performs better or the 3870 XT.

yeah I usually have resolution set to 1024x 768 and either have AA and x2 or not on at all. Besides CS:S and COH, I have a few other games that I play like TF2, BF2142, AOE:3, and CNC3 o:
