i was reading about DDR2 and DDR3 and i notice that DDR3 is like the same as DDR2 but i want to buy a PC with the new things out here so wat you guys recomend me DDR2 or DDR3.....Or Should i get the MSI that support 4gb of DDR2 and 8gb of DDR3 and upgrade it later?

I wouldn't either but if I did I would go with the Gigabyte over MSI.

Your best bet would be a P45 and DDR2.

Look at it this way: Intels new CPU line will require a new motherboard anyway. If you want max preformance, then go with DDR3. Still, the diffrence isn't that noticible yet, so if you constantly ugrade your computer anyway, you might as well get the DDR2 and upgrade everything when Intels new CPU's come out later this year.

I agree with ibp_john. Motherboards with dual support are not as good as you'd think. For example my GA-P35C-DS3R (dual DDr2/DDR3) overclocks less well than its sibling GA-P35-DS3R (DDR2 only) and it cost $30 more at the time too. I only got it because it has eSATA while the GA-P35-DS3R didn't have it. (That being said, it is a great MB and it's given me no s$%t over the past year.)

Also keep in mind that a MB with dual support can't use both types of RAM at the same time. You need to throw out the DDR2 when you put in the DDR3. Even if DDR3 was less expensive, I'd still prefer to spend my cash on upgrading from 4GB of DDR2 to 8GB of DDR2 than on upgrading from 4GB of DDR2 to 4GB of DDR3.

Splendid
With DDR3 prices slowly coming down, its not quite so cost prohibitive as it used to be, but I'd still stick with DDR2 for any of the 775 boards. If a build isn't being done for a few months, then going with Nehalem and DDR3 would be the way to go for an all new build. But for now, I wouldn't bother with DDR3. Its just not good enough or cheap enough to provide any incentive.

there have been tests done with ddr2 and ddr3 on a benchmark system to show there was little or no improvement in performance.

In synthetic benchmarks the DDR3 will be faster but in real world conditions there is very little performance difference between DDR2 400 and DDR3 2000 but there is a large price difference.

Not only that but the chips will have matured by then. The standard for DDR3 is 1.5v but there is very little sold at that voltage because they have timings like 9-9-9-20 and nobody will buy them at those timings.

1- I would not get them also
2- Stay with DDR2 cause DDR3 will shine with Nehalem which requires a completely new build
