DVD Drive Recognition

Have an ASUS internal DVD drive installed to a windows vista desktop computer. It has the drive letter "D". In the properties, I find that clicking on the drive generates the message: D:\ application not found. I am logged in as Administrator and have set "Full Control" for myself. Properties show Samsung DVD ROM SD-616E ATA Device. How can one troubleshoot this issue. The machine came to me this way and has never worked.
