Ok, not quite sure if I should post this here or even if anyone else is having this same problem. Been looking on the forums here, haven't found anything. So here is my current setup and the problem I'm having:
AMD Phenom 9850 Black Edition 2.5ghz
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe motherboard nVidia 570 chipset
2 nVidia 8800GT's with 512mb each in SLI
4gb of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 running in Dual channel
Rosewill 850-watt PSU
Ok so before I got my Phenom I updated my BIOS to the latest one. 1502 if I remember correctly if you were to look up my board on ASUS's website. Previously I had been using the Athalon64 X2 6000+ 3.0ghz.
This is the annoying part: with the Phenom in place, the BIOS is telling me I have 4096MB installed BUT only 3071MB usable! If I place my Athalon X2 back in, it's 4gb for both installled and used.
I also noticed that if I pulled out my second 8800gt with the Phenom in place I get 3.5gb usable in my RAM. So I get back half the gigabyte that I'm loosing.
Also, if I take out 2gb and leave myself with 2gb or even 1gb of RAM with the Phenom in place, I have all of that RAM usable. If I go above 2gb it starts saying I have less memory usable than what I have installed.
I assume it's definitely something with the Phenom and my board since my board was not made from the manufacture to support Phenom out of the box but it's still also has to do with my video cards and I wonder if anyone has a clue of where I might be able to adjust something to get back that 1gb of RAM that's being sucked away. I've also run through my BIOS settings and am not sure what to adjust in all honesty.
Do you use 64-bit OS or 32-bit OS
I notes that if using SLI, there is some high memory address space to be allocated.
Re-install 64-bit OS to test.
Do you check the information in BIOS or in OS?
I am using 64bit Windows Vista Business(I know this is not a 32bit vs 64bit OS problem). However I am checking this information in my BIOS and as I have mentioned in my previous post, with my 6000+ in place, I have 4gb of Installed and Usable RAM according to my BIOS. By usable RAM I mean RAM that is availible for any software that would boot off of a CD or from the hard drive. SLI only runs in Windows and is never active until Windows is loaded and you have it turned on.
Hehe, indeed it is. Well I'll survive, bought more RAM as that's the only thing I can think to do until either a BIOS update or when I decided to build anew.
Also, I've been posting about this on ASUS's website and I have seen several other posts with the exact problem, but not everyone was using my CPU and were using Athalon X2's. Some of them were even fixed by just updating the BIOS.
Hope it loads for you, ASUS's website can be slow.
Edit: Just got Hester's message. Went in to check my BIOS, pretty sure it does not give me that option at all. I have tons of wonderful options to adjust my timings and everything, and I can change my IRQ resources to either PCI device or reserved(which really isn't helping me with my RAM).
