so in reference to this thread:

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/251071-30-compatibility#bas

i am dealing with the exact combination listed there...

on a MSI P6N SLI Platinum

i can boot to windows and have no problems at all when i use 2 sticks... and any combination of 2 sticks in any of my 4 slots works just fine...

but when i use all 4 sticks, windows takes about 10x longer to boot and then even things like dragging a window around causes stuttering... its almost like i took out my C2D and slapped in an old P2...

it is apparent that the ram is all in working condition and error tests show no problems in pairs... the slots are also all good too... so at this point, im at a loss...

i have considered threatening the computer with my 12ga, but i figured that buckshot was not beneficial in making a computer work well...

all four sticks are 4-4-4-12 so shouldn't that set automatically?

one of the two pairs says 2.1v on them so i assume that a 2.1v setting in the bios wont do any harm?

ok, the system wont post if i go above 2.1v...

i cant get it to boot into windows if i use 4-4-4-12... but it works fine at 2.1v and 5-5-5-15... seems like a limitation of the board, not the ram though

ok, still had blue screens with the 5-5-5-15 setting... i backed the voltage off to 2.05 and set the timings to auto which cpuz shows as 5-5-5-18... seems ok now...
