Help. I thought I knew my admin password, but it is not accepted. Now I
cannot get XP to start in normal mode.

Because I am not logging in in safe mode the system configuration
utility cannot reset itself to start Window XP in normal mode.

Back story:
I started safemode by using Start > Run, typed in "msconfig" checked
the "/SAFEGOOT" option under the "BOOT.INI" tab, cliked OK then clicked
the "Restart" button.

Is there a way to trick the system during startup to start in normal
mode???

Help!!!

When I select "Start Windows Normally" it still starts in safe mode
because I set msconfig to start in "SAFEBOOT"!
When I select "Start in last known good configuration" a list is not
shown (should there be one) and it starts in safe mode.

Then go back into Safe Mode, run msconfig, and remove the checkmark by
SAFEBOOT. Restart the machine and it will go into Normal Mode.

After booting into the Safe Mode with the Command Prompt.

And when you're done using the command prompt...
Close the command prompt by typing:

exit

Hit the Enter key.

Or...

Click on the Close [X].

Or...
Start the Windows shell.

Type:

explorer

Hit the Enter key.

Or...
Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | File | New Task (Run...) | Type: explorer | OK |

Either way, this warning will come up.

--------
Desktop Warning
Windows is running in safe mode.

This special diagnostic mode of windows enables you to fix a
problem which may be caused by your network or hardware
settings. Make sure these settings are correct in Control Panel, and
then try starting Windows again. While in safe mode, some of your
devices may not be available.

To proceed to work in safe mode, click Yes. If you prefer to use
System Restore to restore your computer to a previous state, click
No.
--------

Also, when done doing whatever, you need to open msconfig again...

Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | File | New Task (Run...) | Type: msconfig | OK |

UNSelect: ? /SAFEBOOT under the boot.ini tab | Click Apply |
Under the General tab Select: ? Normal Startup - load all device drivers and
services | Click Apply and Close

Or...

Open Task Manager...
Ctrl + Shift + Esc | File | New Task (Run...) | Type: explorer | OK |

And open msconfig from Start | Run

Or Windows key + R to open the run box.

Answered above where you repeated this question. It's best to stay in the
thread, or others will have no idea what you are talking about.

Malke,
Read more carfully before you answer.

I can't log into safemode because I don't have the admin password.
I can't log into normal mode because windows will not let me - I'm
locked into logging into safe mode.

Then either boot to Last Known Good Configuration or use NTpasswd to
change the Administrator password to a blank.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

Then go into Safe Mode, use the User Accounts applet to make the
Administrator password into something you will remember, and uncheck
the box next to Safe Boot.
