the ASUS P5Q Pro LGA 775 Intel P45 mobo is offered as a combo deal with the 4850 card i want on newegg. i will be running 4850 in crossfire with Q9450 core 2 quad. i will be using gskill ram 4 gigs. i plan on overclocking both cpu and gpu, with some help of course. i want to game and i will be doing heavy video editing. with this board take care of business? any other board for about $150 out there better? thanks for the help guys!
For a $150 mobo that overclocks well and can do CF, P5Q Pro is a good choice. Keep in mind that P45 does Crossfire at x8. Only X38/48 can do CF@x16. Look at the chipset table:
For cf, you need x38/48. P45 will not do. The bottlenecking of pcie2.0x8 in cf mode is too heavy, and it's a waste of $400 worth of cards. Some p45 motherboards say "2xpcie2.0x16," but it's misinformation. P45 runs at x8 in crossfire mode, chipset limitations. Nothing can be done about it. http://www.tweaktown.com/articles/ [...] index.html
