$400-500 gaming rig?

As much as I hate to do this, I'm gonna have to. I wanna get a decent rig for pretty dam cheap. I don't make enough money to get a good rig in less than a year or 2. So for now I wanna just build a cheap rig that will be upgradeable in the future. I'm kinda leaning towards a 8800gt for the gpu. Other than that I'm not to sure what the best budget parts are. I already have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and those kinds of things. I just need stuff to get it running.

Drop in a 8800gt and you should have a 14-15k 3dmark06 score.

You wont find another system that fast for that price with OS included.
I just put it up tonight so I thought I'd shoot it at you since its in your budget, and I doubt you can build a Intel 3.8 with OS for the same or less.
AMD would be easy to build for -$500.

What exactly do you have that you can reuse? "those kinds of things" really makes it hard to throw something together for you unless monitor, keybaord, and mouse are the only things you have. We need a complete list of things you already have. But assuming that the aforementioned are your contributions, you're still not going to get anything for $400-500. There is a lot to buy still and for an upgradable computer you're stuck with spending about $700 for a "decent" rig. The PC I have below is a cheap AMD rig with a 9600GT, which is a great card for the price. 2GB RAM for XP pro will be enough forever and the PSU is pretty good. If you wanted an Intel PC you're spending another $100. Sorry about the dissapointment, maybe someone else will be able to price something a little better for ya.
