Costum install

I have recently bought a second hand desktop computer which was preinstalled with windows vista 32 bit. I have done some research and found my computer can handle 64 bit so i want to know exactly what is required before i can preform the custom installation? Are the recovery discs i can get off my computer builder (hp) all i need?

64 bit os media is needed with a clean install.
