More Information

Hi,

I've been reading these forums for a while and decided to make a new build. This will be used for random stuff: school, games, etc. I would just like a fast machine that will last me for a while. I'm planning to overclock the Q6600 to (hopefully) 3.6Ghz.

CPU: Q6600: $219 CDN

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L: $88 CDN

RAM: OCZ Platinum XTC PC2-6400 4GB 2X2GB DDR2-800 CL5-4-4-15 DDR2 240PIN Dual Channel Memory Kit: $110 CDN

Case: Antec 900: $91 CDN

Video Card: EVGA 8800GT: $160 CDN

Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB SATA2 3GB/S 7200RPM 16MB Cache NCQ Hard Drive: $92 CDN

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition 64BIT DVD OEM: $110 CDN
(NOT SURE ABOUT THIS, SHOULD I GO ULTIMATE?)

DVD Writer: Samsung DVD Writer: $25 CDN

CPU Heatsink: Zalman CNPS9700 LED Copper CPU Heatsink 110MM Fan LGA775 AM2 S939 1250-2800RPM 19.5-35DBA Blue LED: $62 CDN(CAN I GET SOMETHING CHEAPER?)

Power Supply: Corsair HX520 CMPSU-520HX 520W Atx Triple 12V 40A Continuous 24PIN Atx Modular 120MM Power Supply: $90 CDN

TOTAL: $1035 CDN ($1036 USD)

Any suggestions? I'm wondering if I should go with Windows XP and 2gigs of RAM? What about a 45nm CPU? I would like to stay around or below $1000.

Thanks in advance.

Very nice.

Maybe change the cooler to a Tuniq Tower. Cheaper and it cools better.

Otherwise, it looks great.

you might want to upgrade to a 7200.11, and maybe a differnt PSU, that one looks to have 3 rails and is modular. I suggest 1 rail and non-modular. there are cheaper but still good coolers.

My understanding is Ultimate over home premium is mostly eyecandy
