Asus has this board on their website and at newegg now.

They call it extreme quad... they have 4 PCI-E slots on it and 4 ethernet ports. They claim it will run quad crossfire... ya right.

Although the newegg description differs, the ASUS site claims two true x16 slots... that would be a first if true.

Edit: Naw, from what I can gather across the internet the four slots are (1)x16, (1) x8, (2)x4. What a waste of space.

Maybe someone will want it for the 4 ethernet and 10 USB and 10 SATA ports

nope

only the x have dual 16x

you have dual 8x with 2 cards as with p35

it says it at new egg - the white is 8x, if you use the white the blue drops to 8x too

1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot at max. x16 link (blue)
1 x PCI Express 2.0 x16 slot at max. x8 link

I was looking at this board as well.. i wont be doing crossfire though..

are there two full fledged 16x single slots available/possible (4870 cards or maybe 9800gx2)..

Cheers

P45 has 2 PCI-E 16x slots but when u want to use CrossFire the speed will be limited to dual 8x.

But for single cards like HD 4870,HD 4870X2,9800GX2 which requires one slot,u will be fine :)

Mainly due to some numbers i saw on the 4870:

Here are some other stats from tom's hardware showing the 4870 card
does well (25 fps) and the gx2 beats it out with over 31fps..

http://www.tomshardware.com/review [...] 992-4.html
which corresponds with this one http://www.tomshardware.com/
rev [...] 07-18.html

Some have stated they actually get 30fps with the 4750 though, in either test
case, i'm not sure if this is with large amounts of scenery or say
across multiple monitors (3).. (mine will be across 3 lcds, 1920x1200)

Doesnt the gx2 beat em out then?

See the benchmarks of HD 4870X2 too.
9800GX2 may win HD 4870 but dual GPU doesnt always work fine so my vote goes for HD 4870X2(if u can afford it) or HD 4870.

When you say dual gpu doesnt always work fine, do you mean for other games (not fsx) that aren't optimized for dual gpus? I'm guessing as time goes on, more and more will though?

I forgot to ask, do you know which colored slots i would put each video card in, to get full 16x (non sli/crossfire)?

Reply to markm75

I just contacted Asus, he says the other slots when run independently would be 8x, so not two 16x unfortunately, back to the drawing board :(

I think i may opt for this guy: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813131218

p5e3 deluxe.. and suffer the expense of going ddr3

Yeah sorry I ever posted this... if you read the first two posts carefully it was just me thinking out loud, back when the chipset was still new.

Just get a x48 board if you need two x16 slots... you can get a very nice one for around 250.00

Well its not always the game problems that doesnt support MultiGPU,its driver problems too, look @ HD 4870X2 its a dual gpu solution but it performs very well in almost every game.

as for motherboard,if u need CrossFire, take a look @ P5E(no need to look @ P5E3 because u can DDR2 RAMs very cheap and the difference between DDR2 and DDR3 isnt much) or look @ ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA,because i dont think the price difference between P5E and MAXIMUS FORMULA isnt much and u will get SOLID CAPACITORS(MAXIMUS FORMULA) and a free copy of 3DMARK 06 and STALKER.

I dont think any of those boards worked for my setup.. except the p5e3..

need dual slots: pciex16, pciex4 (raid), pciex1 (audio), pci (vid capture)..

This space need seems to only be possible on the ddr3 boards.. and most have said if i went with ddr3 1333 mhz cas9 ram, i'd be at the same speed as my ddr2 1066 cas5 ram right now.. ie: throwing a little money away, but it may be the price i pay to have this capacity, unless i can still find a ddr2 board that works (no crossfire or sli needed or will be used).

Did u look @ ASUS MAXIMUS FORMUL or P5E,they are both DDR2 Motherboards and have the things that u want, right?

No, i think with two dual video cards that didnt leave enough of the other slots available (pciex1 and pci)..
