Unstable internet. how can i fix it and make my internet faster?

I have crappy dsl, and sometimes especially when I try to game, it make me have really unstable fps. I have an awsome video card but bad internet, so lag spikes are everywhere.
How can I stabalize my internet, and is there a way to make it faster?

note: this is verison dls, and in case you care, my modem is a westell 327W

I posted a thread about fastest downloads and someone suggested to me Powerband Internet. I looked at it and it looks like it accelerates your connection, maybe look at that. Why is your DSL crappy do you just live pretty far from the telco? What kind of speeds are you getting?
