hi
my q6600 stock fan is making a lot of noise
no not the usual whiring like the case fans, it is making a "tic tic" sound
i was wondering is this normal?
it is not very loud but enough to disturb me when i am sleeping or studying
is there a way to fix this or do you think i might have damaged the fan while installing it (took me an hour)
thank you

Hyder it sounds like the fan blades may be hitting something, cable in the way of fan blades or hitting fins on heatsink.stock heatsinks and fans are junk I always replace them with good heatsinks and fans.the tic tic sound could be as simple as cable in the way of the fan blades.hope this helps you out

Either a cable or you broke some of the plastic cage, or your fan isn't installed correctly.

Sine it took you 1 hour I'm quessing that you installed it with the mobo in the case. If so its probably not on all the way. When you do it in the case the mobo flexes and the pin bottoms out on the mobo tray not allowing it to go in all the way.

no, theres no wire, i can see the fan spinning fine

well, i installed it while the mobo was on the mobo tray so i dont know if thats the same as it being in the case, however it is locked on pretty tight, i pulled it out and installed it again last night, no difference

could i do some mild overclocking from 2.4 to about 2.8 with this fan?
idle temp 38-44, load 55~
the fan only spins at 2400rpm but it can go up to 3000~
if not, can u suggest a good hsf, i would then overclock to about 3.5ghz

thanx

I would figure out the tic before anything else. Can you wiggle the heatsink at all. It should be on tight enough that it dont move. It works best to install the HS to the mobo before mounting to the tray.

no i cant wiggle it, its on tight

the reason i was asking about another hsf is if i buy one, i dont have to worry about this 1 anymore

With stock HS+Fan do not even dreem of OC to even 2.5GHZ
Get TRUE heat sink and Sythe fan (look ay my sig)
You need also good TIM as OCZ Freeze Extreme
