If you're going to buy one, get Vista 64bit. If you already have a copy of 32bit XP, and want to save some money, it's still good. Vista 64bit is ideal.

Sorry dagger, but I would have to disagree. But dagger I do greatly value your opinion. I have read too many posts, that vista is slower than XP for gaming. So in my opinion go with XP. I am no vista hater I want you to know. My wife's laptop has Vista, and I gotta agree that it IS slower. My first build in a few weeks will have XP on it. But it's up to you. See what the masses think. Good luck.

There is no difference between the two anymore. If I was going to build new, I would go Vista 64 myself.

New build, no doubt about it I would go with Vista 64.
I am currently using Vista 32, have 64.....just haven't taken the time to install and reload everything yet. Will do the Vista 64 thing after my next major upgrade, I do believe.

A few years ago, people said that XP takes too much system resources compared to 98/ME. This argument doesn't fly. As time goes on, you'll see less and less of it.

DO NOT buy a copy of XP instead of Vista. But if you already have a copy, it's still good. Keep in mind it'll go the way of 98/ME in time though. Chances are, it'll take less time for XP to die than it took for 98/ME, as DX10, which XP doesn't support, is now in the equation.

Yes Vista is a bit slower, sometiemes bugs out on older games if you like to play them. (COD2 my favorite game) If you have a 32 OS use that one. If not go for 64 Vista. I am currently using Vista and I love it. Is it a resource hog? Yeah sure a bit but if you rining enough of RAM you won't even notice.

Get Vista x64 its the way to go. I play many games and see no advantage to using XP anymore. COD4, Ghost Recon1 &2, Rainbow6 Las Vegas 1 & 2, FSX, ARCA Sim Racing, Medal of Honor Allied Assault, & GTR2 all work great with Vista x64

XP is so yesteryear.

Honestly with the gap closing between the difference in XP/Vista as far as games go, there doesn't seem to be a reason to get XP anymore, besides the price maybe. It worked for what it was meant for and now its simply being passed on to the next generation. It is still debateable and probably always will be, but Vista x64 is where its at, or is going to be.

Go with vista 64, especially since you have 4gb RAM. And honestly, I doubt you would notice a huge performance difference between XP and vista with that setup. In either OS, you should be able to run most games in high with good framerates. Hell, I'm running an old A64 3500+, X800pro, 2gb RAM, and while its pretty slow in vista, I really don't mind it. I can play CoD 4 1280x1024 with acceptable frames.

Remember... Look both ways.

Yeah Vista 64 is good. My rig AMD X4 9600BE 4Gb gskill DDR2 800 RAM, and a 3870. When the 64 was 1st out there was not too many drivers, but now all of that is fixed. SP1 made my system run so much faster. I can boot up in under 10 sec. after Logging in, Where vista 32 on my laptop took about 45 sec. And able too see all 4gbs of RAM is nice. I'm going to be putting 4 more Gbs in for 8 gbs.
