I've been taking prebuilts from various companies and making them custom frankenputers for years, and I finally decided to try my hand at making the entire thing by hand.

https://secure.newegg.com/NewVersion/Wishlist/PublicWishDetail.asp?WishListNumber=6061734&WishListTitle=new+pc

I'm terrified I've missed something important but so far I think I'm ok. (I've already got sound card and monitor waiting)
The only snag I've run in to is not being able to be 100% sure everything is compatible as I dont know how to dig up more specific information on each piece.

Any thoughts or suggestions for a rookie?

well 4 starters tat motherboard doesnt support phenoms...And u can get a better performing intel q6600 for like $220 (better 4 cheaper.) If u really want to stick with the green team u should think about getting a amd 790 mobos.

If you'd like to keep the selected motherboard, and don't mind an intel chip, i'd go for a Q6600 (for quad), or E8400 (45nm dual). And both will easily outperform the Phenom.

Also if you want to get any DX10 usage you'll need Vista. Specifically Vista 64bit since you've chosen 8gb of RAM.

The rest of the rig is great.
