I had the 3870x2, always froze up games, rma'd two of them, spent alot of time w/ ATI tech support for them to finally tell me the Sapphire was not a certified card... oh boy was I pissed.

I spoke to a tech at XFX the oher day b4 I got the card and he said looking at comparable systems I shoult get any where aroung 10000-12000 marks.

yeah, 10K or above sounds right for default run of 3dmark06 at driver default settings. It's very CPU limited benchie, so 12K and above would be more for an Intel C2D or Quad.

Just curious if the problem existed before the upgrade. That is why I asked. Seems with not being happy before with ATI and now with NV, it may be system releated not GPU or even display driver related.

Your freezing in games may or may not have not been directly related to the HD3870's. You should have plenty of power with that PSU though. Possible compatibility issue going on.

I plan on speaking to XFX today, b4 all on this I had 2 ATI x1950 pros running crossfire, stock, hitting around high 9k marks, not sure why it coud be system related, the issue w/ ATI/ the 3870x2 was when the Catalyst AI was on it would run hi marks but horrible in games... ie freezes etc. Im certain its somethin funky.

same power supply, the bios was flashed to new version and amd 6400 64x2 was added but I still had the crossfires,,, bios is set to optimized defaults and memory timings at 4-4-4-12 2.2volts

OK, so everything was fine with the new bios and the new CPU. Then uninstalled the X1950 drivers and card, put in the 3870x2, and had game freezes? All this helps for us to get an understanding what's going on. What does CPU-Z report?

How about in games now. How is the 8800GTS doing? Is it only 3dmarks you are concerned about. 6K is low, I'd be concerned too when they are that low. I would not be concerned if it were 9,500 and you expected 10-12K.

yep bios seems fine and the new cpu is very fast, all was running real well with the 2 1950pros, it6 was when I added the 3870x2 when I started having the issues while the catalyst ai was enabled. honestly i took an early lunch went home ainstaled the card ran 3d mark and then came back to work,
as far as cpuz goes I know what it is but the info would not mean anything to me, Im not that savy abuot that.

AH, so you really haven't tested the 8800GTS much. But now you are at work going nuts about the low 3dmark score and wishing you were home fixing it. I can see clearly now :)

You could post a sceenshot of CPU-Z for us to look at. But before you get too worried, play some games and see how she does.

definately not the CPU that's bottlenecking it, i've got an AMD 6000+ and hit over 12,000 with the 8800GTS 512 overC'd, have you tested the temperatures of the CPU, GPU and junk and stuff? try that out and post the temps, under idle and load...

If all else fails, reinstall your OS to ensure you have a clean system. I usually try to do that before I pinpoint hardware issues because software issues can seem like hardware problems due to degraded system performance.

I get around 11700 with my 6000+ clocked ot 3.2 and my 8800gts 512 clocked to 800 & 1060

You should be getting around the same. 6k is really, really low

yeah & wtf @ 200mhz HT? It should be 1ghz
