It is either a driver issue (try older drivers) or your CPU is bottlenecking the card.

Did you uninstall your old drivers?

What made you fed up with ATI? Poor 3dmarks? :)

I had the 3870x2, always froze up games, rma'd two of them, spent alot of time w/ ATI tech support for them to finally tell me the Sapphire was not a certified card... oh boy was I pissed.

I spoke to a tech at XFX the oher day b4 I got the card and he said looking at comparable systems I shoult get any where aroung 10000-12000 marks.

yeah, 10K or above sounds right for default run of 3dmark06 at driver default settings. It's very CPU limited benchie, so 12K and above would be more for an Intel C2D or Quad.

Just curious if the problem existed before the upgrade. That is why I asked. Seems with not being happy before with ATI and now with NV, it may be system releated not GPU or even display driver related.

Your freezing in games may or may not have not been directly related to the HD3870's. You should have plenty of power with that PSU though. Possible compatibility issue going on.

I plan on speaking to XFX today, b4 all on this I had 2 ATI x1950 pros running crossfire, stock, hitting around high 9k marks, not sure why it coud be system related, the issue w/ ATI/ the 3870x2 was when the Catalyst AI was on it would run hi marks but horrible in games... ie freezes etc. Im certain its somethin funky.

has the motherboard and power supply remained the same since the crossfire X1950 pro? Were they fine performance wise and stability wise?

Reply to pauldh

Sorry, but I get almost 10k, it isn't your card !

same power supply, the bios was flashed to new version and amd 6400 64x2 was added but I still had the crossfires,,, bios is set to optimized defaults and memory timings at 4-4-4-12 2.2volts

OK, so everything was fine with the new bios and the new CPU. Then uninstalled the X1950 drivers and card, put in the 3870x2, and had game freezes? All this helps for us to get an understanding what's going on. What does CPU-Z report?

How about in games now. How is the 8800GTS doing? Is it only 3dmarks you are concerned about. 6K is low, I'd be concerned too when they are that low. I would not be concerned if it were 9,500 and you expected 10-12K.

yep bios seems fine and the new cpu is very fast, all was running real well with the 2 1950pros, it6 was when I added the 3870x2 when I started having the issues while the catalyst ai was enabled. honestly i took an early lunch went home ainstaled the card ran 3d mark and then came back to work,
as far as cpuz goes I know what it is but the info would not mean anything to me, Im not that savy abuot that.

AH, so you really haven't tested the 8800GTS much. But now you are at work going nuts about the low 3dmark score and wishing you were home fixing it. I can see clearly now :)

You could post a sceenshot of CPU-Z for us to look at. But before you get too worried, play some games and see how she does.

pauldh... hey if I run CPU-z tonight what should I be looking at? what should I focus on fron the report?

lol, yeh I would say I am a little curios on why, Ill get you a screenshot of cpuz tonight.

Reply to jcgross

definately not the CPU that's bottlenecking it, i've got an AMD 6000+ and hit over 12,000 with the 8800GTS 512 overC'd, have you tested the temperatures of the CPU, GPU and junk and stuff? try that out and post the temps, under idle and load...

If all else fails, reinstall your OS to ensure you have a clean system. I usually try to do that before I pinpoint hardware issues because software issues can seem like hardware problems due to degraded system performance.

What resolution are you running? Make sure its set to default and your card isn't set to force higher resolutions.

what?! ur ht link seems very low.. even with my athlon64 x2 4400+ score 1045.1 mhz.
I think u have a problem with mobo bios setup at hyper transport configuration..

I get around 11700 with my 6000+ clocked ot 3.2 and my 8800gts 512 clocked to 800 & 1060

You should be getting around the same. 6k is really, really low

yeah & wtf @ 200mhz HT? It should be 1ghz

so what do I do?

Its in ur motherboard bios setup.
I mean.. restart ur pc, when the pc start booting press DELETE. The bios setup menu should open. Go to ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES (well it depends on ur mobo, mine is using abit ax78). press enter. In hyper transport configuration/ht link, adjust ur ht link from 200mhz to 1000mhz. save and exit the bios menu. Its easy, give it a try.

On the other way, clear ur CMOS jumper. It should make ur bios to default.

well heres the results... 12603d marks, yes twelve hundred and sixty. I attempted to play COD4 and the cursor just lazily moves around, here is a new cpuz screenshot...

well. good for u. what do u mean by cursor just lazily move? Is the perfomance still the same?

Reply to grizz86

no I actually went backwards, from 6k marks to a little over 1000 (1 Thousand), 3d mark runs horrible, cant play cod4, newest nvidia driver, new dx9, dxdiag is ok, everything else is oh tho

Reply to jcgross

what I meant by the cursor lazily moving in cod4, its like a slow delayed reaction, totally weird, but I checked on the MSI forum, the bios setting you suggested is correct.

sorry. didnt notice that. I thought it was 12603 score. :p
hmm.. seems to me u using hyper performance ram right? Have u check in bios setup ur voltage of ram? If ur using hype prfmnce ram.. it should be 2.2 v. Some msi motherboards lock the voltage ram @ 1.85v. U should adjust the voltage manually even ur mobo set to default. Try it out.

WOW! do I have an update, reran 3dmark... 11328 marks, running stock. played cod4 easily. sometimes my pc acts like its on the rag. now all I plan to do is go to tweak guieds.com and learn a little about the Nvidia Controll center... at any rate my hat is off to all of you for the advice and support :D
