How much faster would this be?

I'm thinking of changing from this:

CPU: Socket 478 Intel P4 Northwood 2.4C (2.4GHZ)
L2 Cache 512KB
FSB 200MHz (800MHz)

MB: ABIT A17 (AGP8X and Dual Channel Ram support)
FSB(800MHZ)

MEMORY: PC3200's Dual Channel Format
2GB (1GB X 2) Dual Channel "G-Skill"
1GB (512 x 2) Dual Channel "OCZ"

GPU: ATI Radeon 9800 XT (AGP 8X)
Memory Size: 256MB
GPU CLOCK: 412 MHZ
RAMDAC CLOCK: 400MHZ
BUS: 256-Bit DDR
Real Clock: 365mhz
Effective Clock: 728mhz

to these, without changing my S-ATA hard drives or my nice PSU.

MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131247R
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227289

I'm just curious if anyone has a "description" or numbers, of how much faster this would be for me.
twice as fast? maybe more?
Or any suggestions for more cost effective choices? I'm going to be gaming Age of Conan.

I'd be weary of anyone who said they could tell you with affirmation how much faster your system is going to be. You need to perform benchmarks to get numbers that have any meaning and it's pretty unlikely anyone has run the numbers for your 2 particular builds...

Its impossible to guess exactly how much faster the new build would be, but its safe to say that you should be pleasantly happy with it. A word about the ram: it isn't that great an advantage to get the DDR2 1066 ram. Just buy some DDR2 800 ram and overclock it yourself. That's what the vast majority of faster ram is anyway. Its just factory overclocked DDR2 800 ram. I bought OCZ DDR2 800 ram and overclocked it myself with equal results of the higher priced, factory overclocked stuff. A good place to put the money saved would be in a better video card.

Whoa. Talk about overanalysis. I am going to assume you are less concerned about specific PCMark scores, and more concerned about what performance boost you will get for your money.

You won't need benchmarks to notice the clear "night and day difference" that you will experience. I would be weary of anyone who couldn't make such a clear cut subjective judgment. Not counting any financial pain you may feel, you will be extremely happy with the results you will get. The difference will go beyond subjective, into objective--i.e., I suspect you couldn't run many games before, but you will run them all now.

Excellent product choices. My only suggestion would be to go with the latest 45nm processors, e.g., e7200. It is a couple bucks LESS than your selection, and likely betters it in every respect. It is getting a bit lost in the e8400 hype, but there are about half a dozen glowing reviews that say that it is probably the best dollar-for-dollar buy you can get right now. (OC to >3.6!!!) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115052

Good luck. And savor those first couple days when you are in awe with your newfound speed!!!

In response to Sailer about the RAM.
The MB I selected shows that it uses DDR2 1066 RAM, but it says "MEMORY STANDARD".
Does that mean that it could use DDR2 800 RAM also?

in short: yes
but i would go with a gigabyte d3sl or d3sr mobo, saving some money and trouble, since im pretty sure you wont go for sli

The MOBO I selected was selected for being one of the best prices for a MOBO with PCI express 2.0 x16,
because of the GeForce 9600GT being a PCI Express 2.0 GPU. Those mobos you recommended say that they are PCI Express 16x, but doesn't say 2.0.

I'm searching around seeing if I can find more PCI Express 2.0 mobos on newegg.
I'm wondering now if theres PCI Express x16 (not 2.0) graphics cards that will be just as good?
Then I could get a cheaper MOBO.
