Will this Intel Xeon E5472 Harpertown 3.0GHz LGA 771 80W Quad-Core Processor Model EU80574KL080N - OEM http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117161 work with this MOBO? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813121330.

It doesn't seem to say yes or no in the specifications, but on some of the comments I am lead to believe it should work.

Also, since I am buying the two CPU mobo, it should still work just fine if I am only using one CPU right?

Please let me know if this CPU and mobo pair are compatible. Thanks

Short answer, no
Long answer. If you look beside where it says LGA, there is a number. That number is the number of pins on the motherboard.
A chip that is designed for 771 pins will not work in a motherboard with 775 pins.
LGA 771 xeons are for server motherboards.

This is a link to the dual LGA 771 server boards from newegg: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010200302+1071321504&name=Dual+LGA+771
There are many to choose from, so do as much research on the ones that seem to suit your needs as you can, naturally.
I'm sure there are others in the Forums here (and elsewhere) who have firsthand experience using some of these boards, and they'll be happy to give more concise advice once you start to narrow down which board fits your needs and/or budget.
Best of luck!

That is weird. The board I posted says it has been deactivated. It was a LGA 771. TO be exact it was this one Intel BOXD5400XS Dual LGA 771 Skulltrail D5400XS Extended ATX Motherboard - Retail that seems to no longer exist.

So are these boards good for video editing computers? I chose it because I want to go with two CPU's if not right away possibly on down the road.

Here is the link for supported processors: http://processormatch.intel.com/CompDB/SearchResult.aspx?Boardname=d5400xs

According to the chart, the 5472 Xeon your wondering about is supported for the Skulltrail. So you're good to go for the processor.

Also, I'm sure you know, it's a larger-than-standard ATX form factor (EATX) so you will have to make dure that the case you use will support this type of motherboard.

Just take your time in picking your parts, ask lots of questions (the only stupid questions are the ones left un-asked).

I haven't used a dual-CPU setup since the turn of the century ("turn of the century" sounds so cool), but I do know they are a bit of a different breed from their single-CPU desktop cousins, and the more info you have before you buy, the happier you will be when it all comes together.
Best of luck!

***p.s. here is the link to a list of certified RAM for the motherboard:

You rock man. Thanks for all the help so far. So apparently I am having a little trouble with my RAID issue now with that board. I want to get the 15,000 RPM hard drives and that requires a (SAS) or SCIS controller card. The controller card is a PCI-X and that board doesn't have that on it. So now I am looking at this board. What do you think? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131272 . Does my RAM work with that? Here is my RAM ===> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104021

Now RAID is something I also need help with especially with this controller card deal. So do I just plug both Hard drives into this controller card and set it up in my BIOS? Man, hows that for a question for ya, lol. Thank you for the help man, I really appreciate it.
