So why hasn't the GSO been released in the states? I've seen people on the forums before talk about it, and I thought they were getting the card confused with something else. Is it much cheaper then the 8800GTS? It would be nice if you could turn a $100 8800GS into a $200 8800GTS 512MB.

Considering this soft mod only works with cards that have all the memory chips basically a neutered 8800gts and brought back to life with a bios flash. Simply it doesn't work with majority of the GSO out there. Currently Galaxy 9600gso the ying version that's clocked at 600/1500/2000 is the only one that works. They don't sell Galaxy cards in the states. They sell in Asia and Australia. Maybe Canada.

that Ram is the thing thats holding it back though. Btw does it run on the G94 chip or G92?
Not really long as you aren't running 1920x1200 with AA. It only start to degrade in performance @ 1600x1200 with lot of AA. Perfect for 1280x1024 with all the eye candy on.
You can either run the 8800gs or 9600gso like this and you won't get vram bottleneck.
sorry for the miswording in my post. I was trying to download the updated bios, I know u cant flash it without the software. The article also stated u need the galaxy 9600gso ying version for this to work properly not any old 8800gs or 9600gso.
