Hey guys, I was wondering if my PSU could handle a new graphics card.

My PSU stats are as follows:
DC output = 450W
+3.3V == 22.0A
+5V == 15A
+12V1 == 18A
+12V2 == 18A
+5Vsb == 2.5A

At the moment my machine is running:
intel Q6600
gigabyte Ga-p35 mobo
4 sticks of 1Gig RAM
A DVD ROM and DW rw drive
two 7200rpm sata hard drives
ATI radeon x1900xt
PC TV card
Wireless network card

Do you reckon one of those new ati 4850 cards would be able to fit into my system and replace the x1900xt? if not, what about a 8800gt?

Thanks

it will work, you sould be able to get away with a hd4870 or slightly higher power card as long as you have a good brand psu and dont intend to push the clocks up much.

The 1900XT uses about 110W for the 512MB model (and 100W for the 256MB model).
4850 should run near 115W at load (150+W for the 4870). Good chance your PSU can handle that 4850 load. Worth a try before shopping for a new PSU.
for the 4870 it might be a good idea to take power off one HDD and one optical drive while you do the initial testing - then add them back in later.
You're that close on power requirements. [:wr2:5]

You need to tell us what the maximum wattage of all the +12V rails *combined* is; on some PS's, the total +12V amperage available from two 18A +12V rails like yours might only be 20A or 22A; on other (better) ones, it'll be above 30A.
