Hi all...still using a 6-year old pc and I am getting a new system built - this is what I am planning...

Please let me know what you think and comment on compatibility.

Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9450, 2.66-GHz @ 1333Mhz w/ 12Mb Quad Core (Socket 775)

Asus® Maximus Formula, Socket 775, Intel® X38 Chipset w/ PCI Express x16 (ATX)

Asus® Extreme EN8800GTS/HTDP/512M - GeForce™ 8800GTS w/512Mb DDR3 & PCI Express x16

150GB Western Digital® Raptor™ SATA-150 10,000RPM 16Mb OEM

500GB Western Digital® Caviar® SE16 SATAII-300 7200RPM 16Mb OEM

2 x  OCZ 4Gb PC2-8500 DDR2 Dual Channel Reaper HPC Edition (TOTAL 8GB)

Pioneer DVR-215 Dual Layer DVD±R/RW Drive (SATA) OEM

Thermaltake® Armor 3 VA8003BWS Steel Full Tower Case

Zalman CNPS9700 LED Heatsink & Fan

Corsair™ CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX 12V Ver 2.2 Power Supply

Microsoft® Windows® Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Anything you would change/alter/replace?

Should everything work well together and be fairly future-proof?

Thanks!

Psu is over kill. Raptor is a waste of money IMO. 1066 RAM is just oveclocked 800 save your money. Other than that it looks solid.

why do you need so much ram? 8gb? wow. but then again ram is pretty cheap now. vista ultimate? could get the home premium version.

Thanks for the comments so far!

The 750W PSU was cheaper than the 620W so I figured why not...just in case I ever get a component that needs it or get into video editing.

The 1066 was only $20 more total than the 800.

As for the Raptor, I have heard sooo many good things about speed of the overall system being improved when the Raptor is used as the programs hard drive.

The extra 4GB RAM was only and extra $120 - so why not?  Right?

Any harm in having the extra RAM or any of the "more powerful" components?

Thanks for all the feedback - I really appreciate any ideas!

well i think that the comments are meant to point out that you have what seems to be extra cash for parts that you will actually not utilize. and i think you should stick with the raptor, it's one of the things missing in my system. alltough i can't complain with my 500gb and 750gb 7200.11 seagate hard drives. theyr'e fast and quiet.

Since you asked - I would buy the 790i SLI Ultra mobo, 1100 w PSU and nvidia 1-2 vid's in sli (budget dependent) and two raptors.

Drop 4 GB RAM and put the cash to the vid. card.

Thanks godless - ya it was either 2 500GB drives or the raptor plus 1 500gb drive.

You don't think I will utilize the 8gb ever?  The main reason I want to add the extra RAM is every comp I have ever had or friends have had, more memory was always added later.
