hi,
i'm buying next week a new rig,
ep45-ds3r with gtx280 or x48-dq6 with 4870 & CF it later.
8GB Corsair 800mhz cl4 dhx
tha CPU is the big dillema: Q66 or e84
i can OC the e84 more & gain more power in gaming, but the q66 at 400x8 will give me very good power in 4 cores, letting 2 cores to handle games, & the 2 other cores the hadle other stuff in the background- antivirus, downloads, outlook etc...

i do multi task a lot, using a main screed dell 27" & a secondary samsung 17".
multitasking= buring while listening to music while downloading.
i'm always downlading 24\7, i even thought of a simple PC like 250$ one to handle all my downloads & other stuff... & a pc for main use.

so what do you think? e84 or q66, thay cost the same 10$ diff.

thanks
D.

I'm gonna have to agree. If you want to multitask like a power user you will definitely want a quad core. The Q6600 is obviously a great overclocked and in terms of what you want to do it's perfect. Also, later on it will be great to have a quad core when games will really be taking advantage of it more.

Q6600 for sure. You sound like the perfect candidate for Quad Core processing. Multi-Tasking is exactly what Quads are for.

If you want to OC your quad, get an Intel chipset on the motherboard. Don't go nForce (nVidia) as they don't OC as well. And buy a good aftermarket cooler for the CPU.

You didn't ask, but for gaming on that PC, I'd probably look into the new ATI 4850 video cards. I just got an 8800GTS (G92) few weeks ago, and probably shoulda waited. The 4850's beat them out by a bit and cost the same.

Agreed, every other day for the last 3-4 months someone asks this question.

I went with the E8400 because all I really care about is gaming performance now and I'm planning on using it to build a HTPC when Nehalem comes out and I upgrade. If you want your system to last a few years and you do heavy multitasking then get the Q6600 or one of the newer 45nm Quads. The E8400 is a great chip, it overclocks well and runs very cool and fast but the Q6600 will be more future proof.

thanks guys...

my rig is going to be interesting...

Q9300 (for the power consumption... much less than the Q66) OC to 3.5Ghz
8GB Corsair 800 CL4 DHX *4x2048 @ 1066
2x 4870 1G (waiting for that ver.)
GA-X48-DQ6
Cooling Swiftech ultra+ kit, if i can afford 2 loops so the 4870 will get luck too... i'll do it. as i read in some review it got the same cooling as 3800 so the VGA cooling solution of swiftech will mach it...

[:mousemonkey:2] I've read various articles suggesting that Q9300 is not the best OC'er available.
