I apologize for in advance for my ignorance regarding Raid devices. Recently, one of my hard drives failed in a 2-drive raid0 array running Vista Home x64. I'm going to try the freezer trick, but I was wondering if there was a particular boot utility I would have to use to get transfer the files onto a USB drive. (I have the Ultimate Boot CD but not sure which program to use in this case) Thanks for any suggestions/help.
There are no boot utilities that will fix a broken RAID0 array. However, there are RAID recovery utilities that can reconstruct the array and give you the means to copy files and data from the array. Keep in mind that is the drive failed due to a physical hardware issue the data in the RAID0 is gone, kaput, and never to be recovered; but if the drive failed because of software issues like a corrupt file table, buggered boot record, etc, then the data is recoverable.
Check out www.runtime.org for applications called RAIDReconstructor and GetDataBack for NTFS. Between those two apps, you should be able to recover the data from your busted RAID0.
