OK so I am looking to build a server but don't have a whole lot of experience with server technology and need some help understanding some things.

Right now I am looking at a chassis: http://www.supermicro.com/products [...] TQ-865.cfm and a raid card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6816102115

Now I have been reading the manuals for both of those products and am trying to understand how they would be connected.

That HBA comes with 2 SFF-8087 multilane connectors. Looking at the backplane in that chassis though it appears that there are 8 individual SAS ports. So I would need different cables, no? I would need two SFF-8087 to ???? cables?

Also, that card and chassis both support SES-2 or SGPIO. My understanding is that these are basically just used for displaying drive status via LEDs correct? Do I need to purchase special cables to connect the HBA to the backplane to take advantage of this??

Thanks for any help!
