Hey guys, im sorry for bringing up an old topic but i really need help. I have done alot of research and yet still cannot find an answer.

I found a bargain for a BFG 9800gtx for £170.

Currently i have an BFG 8800gt OC2 w/ Duorb

I cannot Sli as i have a P35 chipset mobo.

I can possibly put the 8800gt w/ duorb onto ebay and sell it for the same price as the 9800gtx, almost as a free upgrade.

Games i play: Crysis, COD4, Assasins Creed, DiRT, all valve games etc. @ 1440x900

Would like to have nice eye-candy.

With crysis my 8800gt keeps crashing and its getting annying.

Therefore what would the people suggest i do?

How close the that bargain is to the price of a 8800GTS (no idea of prices in UK)?

£150 for a BFG 8800GTS 512 OC...

A 9800GTX is about 5% (maybe 10% in the best situations) more powerful than a 8800GTS, for £20 difference, it could be worth it.

Great. And if i overclock that puppy it will be even better?

Or would you suggest getting the OCX version which is immensely OC'ed from factory. But that is like £230 :O

All in all you think i should upgrade the 8800gt to the 9800gtx ?

With a 9800GTX, you will probably be able to play all your games at close to max quality @ 1440x900 for sure and even up to 1680x1050. Make a realistic summary of how much the upgrade will cost and the performance gained (20%-30%) and judge if it is worth the money (also considering the GTS will give you close performance for £20 less).

I think both NVidia and ATI are releasing new cards in 2-3 weeks so depending on how long the bargain lasts, you might want to wait a bit.

i would wait for the new cards from ati and nvidia coming out within less then 3wks, but if u need one right away i would go with the 9800gtx. i owned the card it is much better then the 8800gts g92 if overclocked. But if ur not into that stuff then save $$ get the 8800gts.

WEll the ammount it will costs depends on how much i will sell my 8800gt with Duorb... I can say that i can sell it for £180 with p&p.

I have enough money atm to buy the 9800gtx and make sure that i sell my 8800gt so that i do not loose any money, almost as a free upgrade.

At the moment i am having iissues with my 8800gt and Crysis. It just keeps on crashing, at certain parts in awakening when the rocks fall from the mountain! Possibly to do with the memory modules.

With the release of the new generation of nVidia cards, they will be priced far above my range, so im only considering those when i really need a new update!

The offer will last for the next few days, and there are only 8 left :)

Maybe the 9800gtx wiill be slightly more future proof than the GTS with new drivers and shiz.

So do you think it will be worth it, a jump to the 9800gtx?

My 8800gt is 34 idle, and 45 on max load with the duorb.

But the 9800gtx runs pretty hot, i.e. 70C, im just not used to those temps!

Regards,

Alex

i see. ya the new nvidia cards r going to be pricey. Okay this is my opinion if ur going to overclock go with the 9800gtx it will run hot but it can overclock like hell so i would go with it personally. but if u dont like the heat and loud fan sound go with the 8800gts which stays much cooler and less noise.
so yes it would be a good upgrade but only if overclocking, if not stick with the 8800gts.

My 9800GTX Has NEVER EVER gone above 50C. How are you getting termps that high?

Well from all the reviews i have seen, 70C seems to be the norm with this card. Bearing in mind that it was OC'd from stock. And besides ima gonna stick my DuOrb to cool that beast down to give me more overclocking potential!

In the end i decided to go for the 9800gtx. Forget the OCX version i can OC to that level and higher myself :)

So now ima put my 8800gt on Ebay, if anyone wants it be my guest, will be going cheap great for SLI :)

Thanks for all your opinions :)
