I would like to buy new videocard(s) for my new system.. I know it might be a bit early to know whats best yet but still..
I currently have a 30" Dell 3008 WFP running at 2560 x 1600
Max budget: €1000
Nvidia's new GTX 280: A bit expensive here compared to US remored about €600? ATI's mid-range 48xx series: remored about €200-300?
Though I can increase my budget to 1200 but still I feel like i'm being ripped off when it comes to US... And is the difference of performance that big?
So what do you recommend..??

With that resolution I would wait until new cards come out and see what they can do. Otherwise you are going to want a single 9800GX2 or an SLI solution of some sort, (2) 9800GTX's or 8800GT/GTS's

So, you expect us to tell you the difference in performance between the GTX 280 and the HD 4870? Man, give us a break, neither has been released yet.
I can try to guess the performance of the GTX 280. Let's see, compared to the 9800GTX, it will have 240 stream processors instead of 128. If it also has slightly higher clocks, it should give you about twice the fps of a 9800GTX. That's better than the 9800GX2 or than two 9800GTX cards in SLI, because SLI never gets 100% efficiency.
What kind of motherboard do you have? If you want to try two of ATI's new cards you'd need an X38 or X48 or P45. If you want two nVidia cards you need 750i or 780i or 790i.
I don't know what PSU you have right now. Two of the GTX 280 will most likely require a 1000W PSU, just like two 9800GX2s.

I know about the both still getting released but just wanted to know what you guys would think if I would be waisting money by buying 2 GTX 280. Or if its better to buy buy a few of ati's new cards. But I don't really know there performance difference..
I have no motherboard yet.. I'm aware of the chipsets also i'm still deciding if it 'll be worth buying DDR2 or DDR3..
I will probably get the antec p190 with the 1200 watt linked psu.
Dont see all the fuss about the new cards, the GTX280 will blow everything away but you will pay for it and the HD4870 will cost €300 in europe, HD4850 €200, you will be able to get 2 X 8800GT/ 2 X 9600GT for even less those..
Those cards will struggle at his res with a demanding game. Wait. See how the 2 cards perform, availability and bang for the buck, then either get the 4870s or the G280s

Trusthworthy fellow on extreme forums who has a GTX280 test card says its a bit faster in todays games than 2 x 9800gtx in sli overclocked to the max...
Paying €600 for that is crazy, when you can get 2 x 8800gts for under €280 and overclock them to similar speeds...
Those cards will struggle at his res in many games, with eye candy to boot. And Im not sure of this fellow, and ndas cant be bandied about that way, but hes talking 2 G280s, not 1, So add at least 60% to that. That should allow for higher demanding games to come with eye candy as well

OK, just tried to find any benches at 25x16 and theyre damn hard to find. What I did find was alot of 19x12. OK, I think Im wrong, tho I couldnt even prove myself wrong, as like I said, those benvches at 25x16 are hard to find. Sorry, but Ill take your word for it, tho that friend at ES may be fudging a little, as I think these cards, the G280 anyways will walk over any current sli setup. But again, looks like youre right. Hope the OP finds it easier to get say WIC at 25x16 benchies easier than I

So, the GTX 280 is about as good as two 9800GTX in SLI? Isn't the 9800GX2 about that fast already, since it is two 9800GTX in SLI in fact? I was hoping for a lot more

The rest of my system will be: Processor: QX9650 overclocked to 4.xx ghz like I said P190 with the 1200 watt linked Not sure about if i'll take ddr2 or ddr3 Motherboard depends on videocard and memory Zalman Reservator XT X-FI Elite Pro (already own this one) Still wondering if it fits in my motherboard with all the big videocards..
I'm looking for some real power in my system I want at least to be able to play Vanguard, Aion, Age of Conan, etc. on there highest settings easily.
