How are the western digital 320gb in raid 0 will be running two any better for around 70-80$ more for both drives?
well just make sure you get the AAKS models (i think they are the WD Blue) as those are single platter 320GB if you get the ones i suggest then the performance will be the same as the 640GB WD Blue and close to either the 640 Black or 1TB Black
WD recommends their "RAID Edition" ("RE" ) HDDs for all RAID arrays: cf. "Time Limited Error Recovery": http://www.wdc.com/en/products/pro [...] anguage=en And, you'll get much better performance from RAID arrays assembled with HDDs that use PMR (perpendicular magnetic recording) and 32MB cache. I've been using 3 seagate 7200.12 (500gb) in a raid 0 for 6 months with no problems so far. (its just for performance everything is backed up.) I get between about 400MB/s to 275MB/sec they go for about 50$ each usually oh and the raid controller is the intel ich9r
i decided to go with SSD probably http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227394 or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820227462 and a 1 terabayte drive for just general stuff
The intel drives are way faster at random access. 70% faster. You wont often be using big file, mostly samll files so the Intels are the best. OCZ is good, I had some, but after I saw some reviews I sold them and I am getting some Intel drives now. OCZ requires lots of tweaks, Intel dont.
