Plan: Time for a new computer. I want RAID 1 again.
Specs: HDD is not important, but I'm probably going to go with Seagate 7200.12 at 1TB x 2. AMD 790FX or 790X chipset MB.
I want to know, are the new motherboards for AMD's 790 chipset using Software RAID1 or Hardware RAID1?
Will I be able to use Windows 7 64bit on it and as a bootable partition? I plan on splitting the RAID1 into 3 partitions (personal choice).
Should I really be concerned about it being Software or Hardware RAID1? Any difficulties in setting it up? Or am I going to have to buy a RAID controler (I really don't mind if that's the option).
You don't need buy a RAID controler, download the drivers for RAID of the mobo manufacturer. In the BIOS change the configuration for RAID and whe you start the installation and the installation program ask for drivers for RAID, put the dvd or Flash USB, search the drivers that you download and select....easy.

But is it Windows that manages the RAID or is it the MB? Unless I don't understand "software" RAID, I thought that most MB's used Windows to manage the raid. I want the RAID to be independent to Windows (besides the drivers necessary).
MB or Windows....usually is Windows...if you want that be independent to windows buy a RAID controller...or some MB has one, how I said, when the installation ask for the drivers of RAID MB insert the drivers that you download.

Yes, the card control the RAID and the MB concentrate in other functions....
