I've installed a Intel Q6600 processor. I have a question. My core temp seems to be a little warm. Core#0 is around 38,39, core #1 is around 39, 45, core#2 ,35,33, and core#3 is around 35,33. Is this normal or should they be lower? I used the ArcticSilver 5 paste and smeared it on the processor as even as possible with a credit card, set the heat sink on top. These are the temps I'm getting. I heard there is a break-in period around 200 hour or so. Does this sound about right or should I try placing the paste on once more? Thank you'll for any help in advance. I have a Dell XPS/410 which means no settings to change in the BIOS other than turning off speedstep. I'm using Crucial DDR2 PC2-6400 memory 1GBx4. Running Vista Home Premium 64bit.

Run i for a few wekks, turning it off every time you sleep and go to work. Should drop a few C.

You need to run it on load using Orthos and monitor temps using something like realtemp. Ilde temps mean little. Your idle temps are a bit high but not too bad. What cooler are you using? I can't recommend a better one due to the odd sizes of Dell cases.

Your ambient temps and case cooling ability also matter. Knowing a Dell, unless it's a big expensive gamer case it's case air flow is very poor. You have at least one 120mm on the front if not two? And the same for exhaust?

Yes it is a pretty large computer. The cooling unit is suppose to be quite good actually. I'm not nearly as technical as you probably are but I was told that it would handle the Intel Quad 6600 with no problem. It has this big radiator type cooling unit that sit on top of the processor with pipes running from it. Believe it or not you don't even hear it running. Its as quiet as a mouse. You could still be right in what you are saying, that the fan may not be sufficient. Thank you Conumdrum for the tips and info

Aha, a heat pipe finned cooler. Very common. Looks like a better rig from Dell. They do make some decent ones if you got the pennies.

Run it under Orthos for 30 min or so, then you will know how the temps are. Make sure under windows task manager all 4 cores are at 100%.

If you get in the low 60's on a hot day your good. In the 50's your golden.

Also Conumdrum I did run or tried to run the RealTemp program and it stated that one of my sensors were stuck or something to that effect. Does that mean I have a problem?
