I have an IDE DVD Rom and a DVD Burner, both set to cable select, burner connected as slave. BIOS shows both. Start up W7RC and both show. Next day burner does not show on computer nor on system page. Restart and both show, same drill. This was the same when I was running Vista Basic. I have changed cable and swapped burner with a known good one of same model (LG). Ultra case, power supply with XFX mobo. Lite-On DVDROM. Suggestions?

Try a set of new IDE cables. There might be some problems with the ones you use now.

I have changed from the flat cable XFX provided to the round type and back with no change. I might pull the cable out of my other comuter that works and try that.
Thanks

Ultra tells me the round cable will not support cable select so I set the jumpers. Same result. I then swapped the drives around withe Burner master. Everything seems to show now. Suggestions?

Any suggestions as to why I can't use the DVDROM as the Master?

Been two weeks and the system works fine with the DVD burner as master (remember I took this burner out of another computer where it worked fine as a slave) and the DVDROM as slave. When the positions are reversed with no other changes, the DVD Burner disappears completely after about a day untill a reboot. Anyone ever see this problem? Thanks.

I have the same problem. I have 2 DVD drives, running Windows 7, and they both appear at startup, and works normally, then disappear after about 1 hr. I have them both set at CS so I will try the master/slave setup and see if the problem goes away.

CS didn't work either for me, only works with burner as master

Did it work when you made the change? Doesn't for me.
