Perhaps this is a stupid questions but i'm going to do my first upgrade to a computer soon (yay) in my dell 1100. The mobo only has PCI slots so i've decided on the Radeon HD 2400pro, from my current intel integrated.

I currently use a 'plug and play' monitor which connects to the mobo;
the graphics card doesn't have a monitor output so my i wanted to know, if i got the 2400, would my monitor still work on it? It currently connects into a blue connection.

Just if you need to know:
P4 2.8Ghz
512Ram

Cheers.

:heink:

Your new 2400 dose not have any outputs??
It probably has a DVI output which means you will need a DVI => VGA adapter.
The DVI plug should be white, wider than your VGA plug and have more pins in it.
Your monitor will work just fine, all you need is an adaptor.

If the automobile had followed the same development cycle as the computer, a Rolls-Royce today would cost $100, get a million miles to the gallon, and explode once a year, killing everyone inside.

My bad, it does. And i haven't bought it yet...

The outputs it has are VGA-D sub port and a Dual-Link-DVI-I port. My monitor's input has 5x3 layers of pins, like the VGA. Is the VGA-D the same??

If it looks like this

It is a standard VGA connector and will work just fine.
There are only a few connectors that are currently used for monitors. The standard VGA has been around for many years and is supported by nearly all monitors and GPUs. Worst case you would have needed a DVI <=> VGA adapter but that 2400 has the proper ports for you.
