How to overclick a sapphire 4870 512 MB??

I have a a 4870 and the lastest version of catalyst which apparently is all you need now to OC. How do i know when i'm pushing this thing to far? What do i need to stress it out and know when i'm maxing it out and still staying within certain temp rages and what are those. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated, TY!.

well this is obviously your first time overclocking a video card. the most important thing to do is watch the temperature of the gpu. for a stress test google video card test and it the first link. if you do not encounter any problems in the 3 minute benchmark then you should be good. CCC will not let you put your card higher than what it feels it can handle so you should be ok if you only use that. if you want to overclock even more you might have to use rivatuner. i personally like my cards below 55 but you are using air cooling so i wouldnt go above 70C.
