I recently connected an e sata cable to an external e sata hard drive enclosure. The drive was recognized initially and worked well. But, the drive disappeared after an hour or so. I had to unplug and reconnect to obtain recognition.

Several times, I had trouble connecting to the internet and had to reboot to obtain a connection. This started after I installed the e sata cable and has not happened since I abandoned the cable and went back to USB. Using Vista 64 bit.

The cable was a good (Siig) cable and the external harddrive was a Kingwin e sata enclosure with a 250 gig WD hardrive.

Has any one else had similiar experiences?

Yes I have had that experience but I used another cable and it resolved my problem. If you are absolutely sure that your cable is fine, then my guess would be that the contacts are not making a firm connection. Though I have not had that be an issue with sata devices, I have had that with USB and I can't think of any other reason you'd have that issue other than the drive itself being the culprit.

Thanks for your response. The external harddrive is a sata HD mounted in a two or three yearold Kingwin enclosure. It could be the enclosure. However, reading various reviews of external e sata drives in Newegg and others, there seem to more complaints about these drives than one would guess is normal.

I"ll go back to USB and see what the future brings.
