I'm looking for a top-of-the line power supply that will deliver enough watts for my setup, but it doesn't seem I'm having too much luck, as I have no experience with power supplies. Ireally don't want to short anything or waste money, so I am definately open to any advice :]

Setup:
Motherboard: 790i nForce

CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770

Memory: 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3 2000 (PC16000) Corsair Dominator

Video: 2x EVGA GTX 280 HC16 Edition (possibly 3 if any PSUs will even support this?)

Sound: Creative X-FI Elite

HDD: 2x WD 300GB Velociraptors

PSU: __________

Seeing different things. Here's one site http://www.atomicmpc.com.au/forums [...] c=7&t=9354
claims 600w for tri SLI GTX280s
AnanTech reviews seem inline (509w total system load with SLI 280s) http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341
Corsair 1000w seems reasonable ?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817139007
also some 1200w-1250w PSUs at Newegg making claims to be capable.

I'd go with a Thermaltake Toughpower 1000-1200W.

1000W
1200W

You're almost as lazy as the lid wanted the forum to do his paper ! Honestly, there are power supplies all over the place. If you mean that you don't KNOW ANYTHING about power supplies, go to jonnyguru, google, then ask if you want input on what is good, but at least try.

Next you'll be saying that you can't find any porn on the net either.

I heard the 1000w PSUs will work with tri SLI and possibly even the 600w, too. The Toughpower's just didn't seem powerful enough to me.. I don't know why Im so skeptical about all of those though/ I've been looking around everywhere, including johnnyguru, but I get so much mixed information. Like on the Slizone psu list or w.e, there are only 5 or so listed and I wanted to know if it HAD to be those or better. Haha yah i am lazy but Ive been looking for one for almost two weeks now, im just worried something will go horribly wrong if i dont have a good enough power supply. Tbh, I don't think its worth one of my kidneys for the Guardian, xD

The certified PSUs for two 9800GX2 cards are listed here:
http://www.slizone.com/object/slizone_build_psu.html

The list should be good for GTX 280 SLI too IMO because the power consumption is very close. For example a Corsair 1000HX would handle two of those OK, or a Toughpower 1000W.

I've seen an article where some guys in Belgium used a Toughpower 1500W to power FOUR 9800GX2 cards.

I guess a 3-card setup with GTX 280 needs something in the 1200W range indeed. There's a TurboCool 1200W for example.

The Toughpower 1200W is also a good PSU, has the required connectors, and it's cheaper at only $400 :)

You could save a lot of money with a Q9450, 780i and DDR2.

You could also go with the OCZ GameXStream 1010W
