Hey, I'm buying either the X3350 or the Q9450. I've been trying to find conclusive evidence of the advantages of either or, but haven't really found anything...

Apparently with the Xeon, some mobos aren't compatible, do you think it will work with the ASUS Rampage Formula? I've also read that the Xeon is able to tolerate more heat, and therefore, better for OC'ing...is this true or unfounded?

Should I just go with the Q9450 as it's $30 cheaper?

Thanks. :)

It's not listed for almost all, because it's a server cpu. Most people say it work, however.

I think I'll go with the Q9450...$30 cheaper, and I'm guaranteed it will work.

I recall reading that XEONs do have slightly different Microcode to optimize for typical server loads versus destkop loads.

No Clue about the details.

I would stick with the desktop chip myself.

I have not used this chipset myself but have read where lots of people used the xeon when it was hard to get the 9450 and do not think they had problem do search on toms forums and other ones and you should be able to find answer.

I have the X3350 running on my ASUS Rampage Formula at 3.6. The X3350 even ran on my P5B Deluxe. The only reason i upgraded my motherboard is the P965 chipset sucks with 8 Gig of RAM.

The X3350 will run on most boards that support the Q9450. When I was asking if the X3350 would run on the P5B I recieved the same answers "Its not on the list" but I found a few people who have the P5B with the X3350.

The X3350 is not better or worse then the Q9450. The reason I went with the X3350 is Newegg didnt have the Q9450 in stock at the time I ordered it.

I think X3350 overclocks better vs Q9450 on Asus board. I have a Q9450, impossible to get it run @ 3.6Ghz without high vcore on Rampage Formula. Q9450's temp sensor is broken, mine currently running 49-50c idle. No temp problem reported from X3350 users. I've seen many users able to run X3350 @ 3.6Ghz on Rampage Formula, but not Q9450.
