i just bought this ram, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820231166 and i also need a new cpu, can you guys recommend the best cpu around the price of 100-200$ i prefer intel. Pretty much looking for best cpu to take full advantage of that ram. Leaning towards the Q6600 quad but I'm not too picky.
well im building maching around that memory i linked to and my 8800gts. what i doing, GAMING. what im looking for, mobo including atleast 1 pci-e 16x ver 2.x, atleast 4 sata connectors, memory standard alteast what i linked. ive narrowed down my selections for procs, here they are,
For gaming go with a dual core for now. But if you are not planing on a CPU upgrade for a long time then go with the quad because the future of gaming will use quad. (e.g. Crysis)

yea i dont plan to upgrade for atleast 2 years. atleast the proc and mobo, gfx card will probably need it within a year. is my selection for a quad a good one?
If you plan to overclock, the Q9300 might be more difficult to overclock as it is handicapped with a lower multiplier not to mention it has half the L2 cache of the Q9450.
That's my memory <3 According to G.Skill, it's where speed is! (it used to say "Where speed is?!" on their website, but I think the rhetorical question nature of that exclamation was lost, so they dropped the question mark later).
I like the memory. I haven't really pushed it at all, but I'm just starting to get into the memory tuning on my computer. It's been completely stable so far.
I don't think that the CrossfireX or SLi support means anything at all - it just seems like a gimmick.
Great price, by the way. Pair it with any 45nm CPU and you'll be golden.
On link says supports crossfire, so no sli correct?
Thats correct, no SLI. Only nVidia chipsets do SLI, however, unless you want to play russian roulette with your data integrity, nVidia chipsets are a real crapshoot. Most of the recent ones come with a host of problems, SLI is over hyped.

While an OC'd to the max dual beats a quad in today's games, one would be inclined to think for general use and gaming a mid-range quad would be the better investment (Q6600/Q9450). Not only can you overclock it, game with it, but you can also multi-task smoother than you can with a dual.
Now, if you have another rig that is your general use machine and you want to rape your CPU via overclock for 2-3 more FPS then get that dual and bend her to your will.
