More Information

Just built a new PC for a friend. Specs are;
Antec 900
E8400 @ 4GHz
4 gigs (2x2) Gskill PC6400
eVGA 9800GTX
Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R
Seagate 500gig 32meg cashe
Pioneer DVD burner
Hauppauge PVR 150\remote
Internal Card reader.
Vista ultamite X64

I needed to cut a few holes in the motherboard tray, but I think it came out pretty well. I only wish I had more time to with it. I could hve done so much more.
But here it is.

First on the list was to sit the PS and Mobo in place.

Next, I marked out where I needed to cut
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Ag3ntOrange/3.jpg

Removed the mobo and PS and pulled out the trusty Dremel. Cutting the holes were easy enough. Sanding the rough edges down was a little more time consuming.
I then drilled out a few holes for the tie-wraps needed to hold down the cables.

I needed to widen some holes so that I could pass SATA\USB cables behing the drive bays.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Ag3ntOrange/6.jpg

Once all the drilling\cutting was done, I vacuumed and cleaned out the entire case. Who needs metal shards and dust in a case? NOT ME!
Now , as a precaution, I taped the edges where I had made my cuts.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Ag3ntOrange/8.jpg

Replaced the PS and ran the wires to their final positions.
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Ag3ntOrange/9.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y76/Ag3ntOrange/10.jpg

Installed the motherboard\HD\DVD rom and hooked up the cables.

In RED is where I ran the power cable from the rear 120mm fan. The YELLOW square is where the "front sound" cable is plugged in. It runs parallel to the power cable for the rear fan.

Connected the power, reset , speaker, and hdd light cables on to the motherboard. Then the Vid card and 2x6pin power.

In my haste, I forgot to install the Hauppauge 150 PVR. It was done minutes before my friend came to pick up his comp. So I don't have a picture of it installed. But here's the "almost" final result.

I love the way you ran the main power lines behind the Mobo tray. I'm going to have to adopt that system.

Thx. I just wish I had a modular power supply to work with. That big bundel of wires in front of the PS would have been so clean.

Sometimes you can look at someone's post and tell they just love their rig... that's coming through loud and clear on this one. That's some impressive cable management.

Right you are Ken!

I wish you would have done this a little over a month ago. Cuz right now I don't feel like taking things out.

Looks really sharp though, great job!

Nice work, and I'm guessing the hardest part was determining where to cut which holes. Simple to do, just a little time and love. Nice work!

Dude thats exactly what I been thinking doing but gee I am just way too lazy lol hahaha. Nice work looks clean. I agree modular cables would help with that case. Once I up my MOBO I will do exactly the same thing is just my mobo has the 24 pin righ in the middle which I hate.

Oh thats pretty, good job, way better than mine.

24 pin in the middle is a pain, but still workable. I was on the verge of cutting an opening directly in front of the 24 pin on the motherboard. But opted out. this was a build for a friend, but let me tell you, On my next build I don't even want to see one cable longer than an inch. Unfortunately my current case has fold down side panels and the motherboard tray and panel are one. I might pick up a new case for my self. I have a few plans for the next one, like painting the interior with UV paint.

Excellent work.

Aesthetically night and day from the spaghetti in my '900.

I wonder if there is any correlation between such clean cabling and a reduction in temps. A degree or two? More?

More than a couple degrees difference may inspire me to get off my butt to clean up those wires!

I just couldn't take it any more. I just bought a CM 690 for my current rig. Time to change cases. I'm looking forward to see what I can do with it. And a side window is on my hit list for that baby. The case should be here in a week and it will probablly take me a few days to get it the way I want it. WOOHOO :bounce:
