More Information

A friend of mine recently gave me some parts he was never able to get working, and replaced rather than troubleshoot. They consist of:

Pentium D - 915 SL9DA 2.8 GHz/4M/800705A
Asus P5B
2 x 1 GB OCZ PC2 6400 Platinum Edition XTC

I've hooked it up to a Radeon X1300 Pro PCIE 256M and a StarTech 480 W power supply, and it won't post. The onboard power LED is solid, as is the case power LED. There is no beep code, no IDE activity, and the scroll lock/caps lock/num lock keys on the kb don't light up. I tried using a USB key to update the BIOS on the board using Asus' CrashFree utility, but while the USB key gets power it doesn't transfer any data (it has an lcd display that tells me these things).

I've moved the memory around, cleared the CMOS, reseated the processor, and verified all jumper positions without any luck.

What do you good folks suggest I do to get this system back up and running?

As an aside, my PS does not have a 24 pin ATX connector. Will this MB run on 20 pin if there the PS can supply enough juice? It does have the P4 connector, which is connected properly.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, may I recommend taking a quick look at the manual. (if you dont have already here's a link)

http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/m [...] 20_p5b.pdf

Specifically Page 39 (Chapter 2-31) regarding the ATX connection. Find/borrow/steal/buy an ATX2.0 or newer PSU on that system first, with just memory, CPU and VGA plugged in.
