Its the same problem that the E8xxx series had a month ago with availability. Just give it a little bit of time and I'm sure they will have good quantities in stock. www.microcenter.com may have it in stock, but I think its only for instore pick up. Try Fry's if you have one in your area as well.

Got mine via Amazon last week. Just keep checking. Tigerdirect had them towards the end of last week and about $10 less than I paid for mine.

Splendid
Intel has had problems with supply. There were a few initial problems with the CPUs themselves when they got into the hands of overclockers. Anandtech burned out a couple and found another was on life support, as they termed it. Other than that, Intel apparently underestimated the demand for the Yorkie chips, both dual core and quad core. Be patient, keep looking, and you'll find one. In my opinion, a Q9450 or Q9550 is a good improvement over the Q6600.

Go to Hexus site and read on "Intel to refresh its CPU line-up in Q3 2008"
http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=13394

According to reports, Intel will once again be cutting prices on its desktop CPU parts as it introduces a selection of new chips in the third quarter of 2008.

The third quarter, which runs from July until September, will see the introduction of the following 45nm CPUs, with prices listed in thousand-unit tray quantities:

Core 2 Quad Q9650, a 3GHz Yorkfield-based 45nm CPU with 12MiB L2 cache and 1,333MHz FSB - $530
Core 2 Quad Q9400, a 2.66GHz Yorkfield-based 45nm CPU with 6MiB L2 cache and 1,333MHz FSB - $266
Core 2 Duo E8600, a 3.33GHz Wolfdale-based 45nm CPU with 6MiB L2 cache and 1,333MHz FSB - $266
Core 2 Duo E7300, a 2.66GHz Wolfdale-based 45nm CPU with 3MiB L2 cache and 1,066MHz FSB - $133

To coincide with the launch of Intel's new parts, the existing Core 2 Quad Q9550 will drop in price from $530 to around $316 and the Core 2 Quad Q6600 will drop from $224 to around $203.

On the dual-core front, Intel's Core 2 Duo E8500 and Core 2 Duo E8400 will drop from $266 to $183 and $183 to $163, respectively. The entry-level Core 2 Duo E7200 will fall from $133 to $113.

It is also believed that Intel will drop two 45nm parts from its product line-up, the Core 2 Quad Q9450 and Q9300, as well as the 65nm Q6700, leaving the Q6600 as its last remaining 65nm quad-core part.

You could get Intel Xeon X3350 Yorkfield 2.66GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Retail, which is cousin to the Q9450 at NewEgg as an alternate or wait until Intel new CPU Lineup in the 3rd quater.

Microcenter was taking orders 2 weeks ago for $299, cheapest I could find anywhere. They said it would take 7-21 business days to ship though. I decided to go for it and 8 business days later it shipped out and I'll have it tomorrow. The offer currently seems dead though, and even though it lists them as in stock, you can't order them.
