Does anybody know how to get my nvidia 8800gt recognized by my mobo which had an ati chipset?

you stick it in the pcie slot, attach the 6pin power connector, and then plug your monitor into the back of the graphics card.

Yeah a single card solution is not effected by a Nvidia or an ATI chipset, it doesn't matter.

If you had a ati card in before you need to uninstall the drivers first. Otherwise, plug and play.
