I have a Compaq SR2013WM that needs a hard drive. I bought it from someone who had removed the drive before selling it because they feared that their personal data could be recovered.

The HP website says it originally had a 160 Gb S-ata 7200 ata-150 type drive in it.

Do I have to put the same type drive in there or could it be anything like an IDE or P-ata or whatever? Also, looking for S-ata I only find ata-300 types, not the ata-150. Will that be a problem? Would like to put in an 80 Gb. drive as I seldom use more than 30 Gb. of drive space anyway.

Any help appreciated.

Go with a SATA hard drive. The 300 is backward compatible to the 150. You can chose whatever size you want; however, you'll probably spend more per GB on a small haed drive than you would for a larger one.

You should get a 500 GB Hard drive

a 500 GB would cost you around $45-$50
an 80 GB would cost you around $28-$35
