x5482 is same as QX9775?

Hi

I was comparing these 2 CPUs (x5482 vs QX9775) to find out if apple's mac pro 3.2 8 core has the same CPUs as the other PCs and found this on wiki
"The fastest Harpertown is the X5482 whose TDP of 150 Watts is higher than those of the Prescott-based Xeon DP but having twice as many cores. (This CPU is also sold under the name "Core 2 Extreme QX9775" for use in the Intel SkullTrail system.)"

is this true, are both of the basically the same CPU?

If it isn't exactly the same, it's pretty close - same FSB, same TDP, same clock speed.

yes, this has come up many times, witht he 3xxx xeons, yes these are partically the same chip.

however often the xeon chip are slightly higher quality, for obvious reason, but this is a extreme chip so the gab maybe closer.

the real question is whether the multiplier is locked on the xeon

I would bet that the Xeon is multiplier locked. Then again, not many LGA771 boards have OC capability anyways.
