Yesterday, I bought a Zotac GeForce 8600 GTS GDDR3 256MB to replace an on-board video card (intel 82945g express chipset).
I installed it without any trouble. Windows imediately recognized the new video card and I didn't even had to uninstall the old on-board one.
When I'm on windows, everything is fine, but when i try to see video, for instance, a divx movie with media player or vlc, or a game, dots or small bars with various colors show on the screen.

What could this be?
I'd apreciate any input you may give me, i'm completely lost, as I think i've done everything right in the installation.

My PC is an intel core 2 at 1,80GHz with 1,50GB RAM and my motherboard is a biostar 945GZ Micro 775.
My monitor is an Acer AL1916W

Go into the BIOS and turn off the on-board video, if there is an option. Some boards will do this automatically, yours probably does as it did setup with your new video card. But double check it anyway.
Uninstall ALL the video drivers from the system.
Reinstall the lastest drivers for your new video card.

*1, make sure u uninstall all drivers without ur 8600gts in it. then shut off ur pc or if it forces u to reboot. reboot, but dont log in, just shut down once u can. put in ur new gpu and boot up. then just download the drivers from nzone.com or nvidia.com or load the driver from ur cd that came in the gpu box. eventually ull want to download latest from the web.

Apparently, the problem is solved.

At the end of the day I turned off the pc. Today, when I turned it on, the video reproduction was perfect! And I didn't do anything, so maybe the new video card just had to rest a bit :) I dunno, but it's solved.

Thank you all for your quick replies.
