I am trying to reformat a pc but the POST does not appear on start up but I do get the cursor in the top left hand corner once the blank screen disappears windows xp loads. ( I am a computer novice ).

it's working fine, you need to just keep hitting the delete key over and over or f1 or f2 until you get the setup screen. from there you can set it to boot of of a disk with your format utility of your choice. If it already can boot off of a cd, or floppy, then you just need a utility that will make you a nice disk that lets you format, such as Acronis Disk Director, or a floppy disk that you make from your hard drive manufacture's utilities on their web site.
