Well then, this is no good. =\ I was hoping to put a build together with a 4870 some time around June 15th when they were originally going to be released. Looks like that won't be possible now. Shoot!

Edit: And now I've found this article here on Tom's that claims that the whole 4XXX series will be released on June 23rd!

Hmm, I wonder which one is true?

Well, if the first ones true, then that means its the 4850 and not the 4870 scoring 2800 in 3DVantage, at least according to the article, as it says there isnt a 4870 out yet, and itd have to be a mechanical mockup

I was waiting for these cards to come out before i built my new PC but about 2 weeks ago i decided to put a cheap GPU in and wait them out im glad i did now. I will be able to get reviews and benchmarks before i buy now. If i had waited it may have meant a whole rehash of other parts of the build. I have always advocated the waiting game in the past but i think on balance just building the main rig with a temp GPU is the way to go.

Guess my X1950 Pro will have to hang on for another week or two...

ATI could use some good reviews that aren't spoiled by bad drivers right about now, so I hope they take the extra time to make sure Catalyst is ready to go.

Well I just build a new PC using just the onboard HD3200 chip - I think it's good enough for now if I don't play any 3D games :)

GDRR5 are rare at this moment so the delay is not so big surprice. And when G280 is so expensive there is not harry to introduce new middle range cards, because 3870 is good enough to compete 8800, 9800 series (in price at least).
They keep on stockpiling them even more for the release. So they trust that they can sell good deal of them when they are (finally) released. Most of them are most propably 4850's. One reason is that they want to see 4870 X2 to compared to 280, not the 4870 and 4850 that will definitely be beaten up, when compared to 280 (and they will be compared, despite the huge prize difference) They may want to get more even ground. Does anybody knows when 4870 X2 should be released?
It can even be possible that the whole series is delayed untill the "big gun" is out. Who knows... the marketing strategies can get quite weird from time to time.

Dude the new review on THG showed that the 280GTX ain't all that. If a 4870 is as good as a 3870X2, like said, it will easily be able to take on a 280GTX. And a 4870X2 will be 150-200 cheaper than a 280GTX and will more than likely outperform a 280GTX.

A 4850 may well compete with the x2 cards, in some games itll win. More rumors....the 4870x2 will get over 6000 in Vantage extreme

Yeah the GDDR5 issue is concerning though. Good thing the 4850 looks like a decent card because the 4870 sounds like it will hit some production delays from the GDDR5 mess. Unfortunately, this will probably jack up the price of the 4870.
