Sorry if this has been posted, but I couldn't find one like it with search...I'm planning on upgrading my video card(Currently 7800gt) for the newly release Age of Conan. I'm trying to decide between the two cards mentioned in the thread title.

Between the 9800GTX and 8800GTX which would you guys rather have for long term gaming? Both cards fit into my budget, so price doesn't matter, I have a really nice case with 3 250mm fans so overheating isn't a problem, I don't care about noise levels, and I don't overclock. I'm just interested in which card will give the best performance for the longest amount of time.

Thanks in advance! :D

I'd wait a month and see how the new cards coming out in June do.By the sounds of things the new gtx280/4870 will blow those outta the water.

Overall it's kind of a tossup. Overall performance according to Tom's is roughly equal. Price is about the same ($300). 8800GTX has more video ram. Can't really go wrong with either. Not a bad idea to wait and see either as ogdin remarked.

They are very close. I am happy with my 9800GTX (23-24 FPS Crysis Very High single-card and 46-50 FPS SLI) 1680x1050

Definitly happy with the 9800...less power usage than the 8800 as well.

For where most gamers play(1024 x XXXX - 1600 x XXXX) 9800gtx is better cooler and less power hungry(not by as much as one would think).

In some cases, where video ram is needed(High detail AA at high rez) the 8800GTX pulls a head.

I am more then happy with my 8800GTX considering when i bought it. At todays prices I may have been tempted by the 9800gtx if i did not have a 8800gtx.

I am not sure about AOC, but with it being a 32gig game, damn....I almost wonder if it will take advantage of the extra ram on the 8800GTX. I will know soon(if my friend gets me a buddy key to try.)
