Hey all. i have an 8800GT that just refuses to overclock. i've tried Rivatuner and AtiTool, but just getting nowhere! all i can do is adjust the fan speed. When i do overcolck the is no improvement and AtiTools doesnt even pick up my core or memory speeds.
If it has the stock reference cooler you will need to get an aftermarket cooler to get any good OC's. I have the Zalman VF900 on mine with a steady idle temp of around 45 celsius and 58 under load.
Ive also heard you could use the VF1000 but i had no experience with how good it cool's.
Some 8800GT's (and I say this from personal experience) just don't OC very well or at all so don't sweat it.
Yep, there are some bad apples in those 8800gt. Bottom binned chips. It's rare, but some people out there will end up with them. That's the main reason overclockers tend to opt for the higher costing gts, aside from dual slot cooler.
