Detecting bluetooth devices

Hi,
hope someone can help- cause its diving me wild!!! :cry: 
So here it is.......
2 laptops one on win7 one on vista
2 mobile phones
all in same room, all good battery wise etc.
Both laptops detect both mobiles and can do all necessary file transfers etc.
BUT.... neither laptop sees the other....
So what can it be?

all help and ideas welcome and appreciated.

Are they on a network ?

cheers....

The set up is....
laptops wirelessly connected to internet via router and to wireless printer
mobiles only bluetooth. no wireless on either phone
