my suggestion will be 3850 256MB or 8800GT 256 MB.

1024x768 is pretty low resolution so 256 MB will be more than enough (if you dont use AA). However some of the posters are right. If I were you with current prices I will snatch a 3870 for $130, its the best possible buy at the moment

I can't believe nobody has recommended an 8800GS yet. The price/performance ratio is great and at that resolution, I see no need for the GT to be honest.

exactly... get the 8800 GS because its for low res situations... or better yet... spend the money on a new monitor....

How do you even call that a monitor? I'm not trying to be mean but 15in is just so small. Get a deacent monitor, even a 19in would be a HUGE improvment.

I would recommend the 3870 over the 8800GT because the 8800GT is noisier and runs a bit hotter. Of the 8800 series, I'd prefer a 8800 GTS because of its fan cools it better and is quieter. But for the moment, the 3870 has a good price, runs cool, and has good performance.

Hello. This is my first post! I need a similar recommendation. I want to play the latest games with full settings in 1280x1024 but without AA (including Crysis in very high settings).
I have a intel e8400, 2gigs 800mhz ram and a GA-EP35-DS3L.
Thanks a lot!

Not for "Crysis at very high settings," not by a long shot, even at only 1024x768. You'd need at least a g92 8800gts for that. That, plus more than 2gb of ram, or the PC will start using page file off hdd, and lag down performance.

I ran Crysis on high settings at 1280x1025 resolution with constant 50-60fps. So current gen cards should do. Didn't try Very High though.

the price for 8800gt is coming down but is still mid priced. if you buy an 8800gt get a new 19inc or 22inc monitor, otherwise save some case go the 3850, upgrade everything properly later.
